Our structured education courses are only suitable for people happy to join a group session and for English speakers.

Desmond - Diabetes Education Self Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed adults

A nationally accredited diabetes education programme run by our very experienced Specialist Nurses and Dietitians from Lambeth, within the comfort of your own home.

The course is interactive with lots of tips on food choices, physical activity and prevention of long-term problems associated with diabetes. You will have lots of opportunities to have your questions answered and to meet other people living with the same condition. Ultimately we aim to help you self-manage your diabetes and improve life satisfaction.

Good Wi-Fi is recommended to join the BlueJeans video call (the link will be emailed to you shortly after booking).

We also offer in-person Desmond courses held at West Norwood Health Centre. The course duration is 6 hours (either 1 full day or 2 half days)

Food and Diabetes Group

The Food and Diabetes course provides an overview of dietary recommendations for people with type 2 diabetes. It is run by our Diabetes Specialist Dieticians and consists of one 2 hour afternoon session. The sessions run every month, we offer face to face and virtual sessions.

It is useful for those who are unable to attend Desmond or those who would like a dietary update.

Food and Diabetes are also suitable for people whose first language is not English and need to bring a translator with them.

Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles for Diabetes (HEAL-D)

Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles for Diabetes (HEAL-D): Structured Education for People of African and Caribbean Heritage with Type 2 Diabetes

HEAL-D is an online video group course that has been developed specifically for people from Black African and Black Caribbean heritage. It focuses on advice about relevant cultural foods and other aspects of diabetes, delivered over seven weekly two-hour sessions

Referrals for HEAL-D can be made using the Diabetes Book & Learn referral form available via https://www.diabetesbooking.co.uk/refer or within DXS/EMIS.

Following a referral, the Diabetes Book and Learn team will contact the patient to discuss courses available and help the patient choose the right course for them.
