Patient Education

Our structured education courses are only suitable for people happy to join a group session and for English speakers.

Desmond - Diabetes Education Self Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed adults

This is a NICE accredited structured education programme for adults with type 2 diabetes. The course is held on one day (6 hours) or 2 half days (two 3 hour sessions).

3 courses are offered monthly and are held at a number of venues across Lambeth including Gracefield Gardens in Streatham, the Akerman Centre in Brixton, West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre and at the Springfield Health Centre in Stockwell. The courses are mainly held during the working week but we provide regular Saturday all-day sessions too.

The Desmond courses are only suitable for people who speak and write English.

We also provide a Desmond course for Portuguese speakers which are held 3-4 times per year.

Food and Diabetes Group

The Food and Diabetes course focusses on dietary recommendations for people with type 2 diabetes.
It is run by our Diabetes Specialist Dieticians and consists of one 2 hour afternoon session.

It is held at Gracefield Gardens in Streatham.

It is useful for those who are unable to attend Desmond or those who would like a dietary update.

Food and Diabetes are also suitable for people whose first language is not English and needs to bring a translator with them.

It is a very interactive session with food models and no writing is involved.
